While the Twelfth International Conference on Emotions and Worklife (Emonet XII) can no longer go ahead as planned, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as a live conference in Lancaster, UK. The conference will nonetheless still take place as a virtual conference. We will post additional details regarding registration and participation presently.
The good news is not only will the conference take place, but that we no longer require registrants to pay any fees. The conference will be completely free.
Please check the Conference Website for notices re. submission deadline extensions*, and please submit your manuscripts (full manuscripts as per Academy of Management submission guidelines) via the Emonet submission site. Don’t forget to tell us which option you choose for your paper: (1) conference presentation only; (2) book only; (3) conference presentation and book.
*Conference participants no longer need to pay fees or book flights etc., so we can now be more flexible re. deadlines.
We are still looking for reviewers. If you would like to sign up as a reviewer, please e-mail Audrey Teh at a.y.l.teh@lancaster.ac.uk.
The format we are considering is that we will invite authors of accepted papers (or symposia) to send us their presentations as PPT mix (visual slides + audio) files, which we will convert to MP4 video files and post to the conference website in sessions according to a (virtual) program. Registrants will be given some time (say one week) to view (and listen to) the presentations, after which we will run a video conference (using Zoom or MS Teams) for each session to enable registrants to discuss the papers with the authors. We will conclude the conference with a plenary video conference, where all participants will be invited.
As per past Emonet Conferences, following the conference, we will offer the authors of selected papers the opportunity to publish their work in the next volumes (Vol. 17 and 18) of the book series Research on Emotion in Organizations, published by Emerald Group Publishing.
Finally, as in past years, we still plan to offer a half-day Doctoral Consortium, which will comprise two keynote addresses followed by an interactive discussion session. Audrey Teh will be coordinating the Consortium. Details will be announced presently.
Kind regards and keep well,
Neal M. Ashkanasy, Ronald H. Humphrey, and Ashlea C. Troth, Emonet Conference Chairs
Audrey Y. L. Teh, Emonet Conference Coordinator

Researchers interested in studying emotions in organizational settings are invited to submit papers for the Twelfth International Conference on Emotions and Organizational Life (‘Emonet XII’), to be held in Lancaster, UK, on July 8th and 9th, 2020. The conference is organized by the Emonet e-mail discussion group, an international network of scholars working in this field, established in January, 1997, and affiliated with the Academy of Management’s Listserv (see http://www.emotionsnet.org/). It will follow the annual 37th EGOS Colloquium scheduled for July 2-4, 2020 in Hamburg, Germany (see https://www.egosnet.org/home).
Note that, if COVID-19 travel and assembly restrictions remain and we are unable to hold the conference in a physical location, the conference will still go ahead, but in virtual mode (e.g., via Zoom). Please keep in mind that papers submitted to the conference will be considered for the upcoming volume of Research on Emotion in Organizations (see below).
The primary aim of the conference is to bring together scholars who study emotions in organizational life, and to provide a forum for presentation of some of the significant advances that have been made in our understanding of this important area. The conference papers will be considered for inclusion in Volumes 17 and 18 of the Annual Series, Research on Emotion in Organizations, published by the Emerald Group (see www.emeraldinsight.com/1746-9791.htm).
Theoretical and empirical papers are invited on any topic of relevance to the study of emotions at work, including the determinants of emotion; the nature and description of emotion; processes and effects of emotion at the organizational, team, and individual levels.
In response to requests, we have now extended the deadline for receipt of papers to April 13, 2020. Papers should be submitted via the Emonet website (see below), and will be subject to blind review. Papers should be no longer than 40 pages of double-spaced 12-point Times Roman text in length, and should be formatted according to the submission guidelines for the Academy of Management. We encourage innovative submissions, but all must satisfy the requirements of rigorous scholarship. A brief statement of your preference for presentation format should also accompany submission of papers. It is anticipated that a wide variety of delivery styles will be used, including symposia, panel discussions, workshops, posters, and traditional presentations. Reviewing standards will be irrespective of format.
Authors who will be unable to attend the conference are also invited to submit their papers to be considered for inclusion in one of the book volumes. These papers will be subject to the same review process as the conference papers. Authors submitting their papers for consideration should indicate whether they wish to have their work reviewed for presentation at the conference, the book, or both. At least one of the authors of a paper accepted for the conference must be present at the conference.
Papers for Emonet XII may be submitted here.
For more information, please e-mail one of the conference co-chairs, Neal M. Ashkanasy (UQ Business School, University of Queensland) at n.ashkanasy@uq.edu.au, Ronald H. Humphrey (Lancaster University Management School, Lancaster University) at r.humphrey@lancaster.ac.uk, or Ashlea C. Troth (Griffith Business School, Griffith

Dear Emonet colleagues,
After 23 years of stalwart service to the Emonet Community, my colleagues and friends Charmine Härtel* and Wilfred Zerbe have decided to move on. On behalf of the Emonet Community, I would like to express my deep appreciation and gratitude for their dedicated work over the years since Emonet begun in 1997. (We will plan a special event at this year’s Emonet Conference to celebrate their work and contributions.).
*Charmine is shortly to take up a new appointment at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.
I am now pleased to announce that Ronald Humphrey and Ashlea Troth have agreed to join me as Emonet Co-Chairs (beginning with Emonet XII) and Series Co-Editors of ‘Research on Emotion in Organizations’ from Volume 17 (2021). Ron and Ashlea are leading international scholars in our field, and I look forward to working with them to take the Emonet group into the future.
